Puccini’s Il trittico will be broadcasted on Saturday, December 8 as part of the Metropolitan Opera’s Saturday Matinee Series. Since the production’s opening in November, where Kristine Opolais made her 50th appearance on the Met stage, she has wowed audiences with her stunning portrayal in the title role of Suor Angelica.
“Ms. Opolais’ voice and commitment have grown considerably since her Mimì and Butterfly here; happily placed at the front of the stage, her voice rose into the auditorium, the tone rounder than previously, her fraught demeanor a pity to behold. As the terrible news dawned on her, her body sank to the floor; we watched a woman break.” (Bachtrack)
“Kristine Opolais was haunted and focused… her suffering and transcendence were chillingly real.” (New York Times)
Jack O’Brien’s epic production of Puccini’s triple bill will be broadcasted live over the Toll Brothers–Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network across the United States and Canada beginning at 12:30 PM EST on December 8. Bertrand de Billy conducts the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Chorus with Ms. Opolais sharing the stage with Stephanie Blythe as La Principessa and Maureen McKay as Sister Genovieffa.
