Kristine Opolais returns to the Bayerische Staatsoper this summer in the title role of Puccini’s Manon Lescaut, which will close out the 2015 Munich Opera Festival. She reunites with tenor Jonas Kaufmann (Des Grieux) for this highly anticipated and sold-out series of performances, taking place July 28 & 31 at the Nationaltheater. Alain Altinoglu leads the Bayerisches Staatsorchester and Chorus of the Bayerische Staatsoper for this powerful production, directed by Hans Neuenfels. The July 31 performance will also be live streamed for free across the globe, via Staatsoper.tv at 8:30pm (C.E.T.).
Kristine’s previous performances of Manon Lescaut in Munich garnered acclaim from critics worldwide:
“And the stark, neon-lit sets illuminate two dramatically fearless singers and the palpable chemistry between them. As Manon, the soprano Kristine Opolais turned in a dramatically honest and vocally assured performance.”
Corinna da Fonseca-Wollheim – The New York Times
“In Opolais’ “Sola, perduta, abandonata”, she shows off a variety of vocal textures, from pure and airy to harsh and edgy . . . she is strong on both the low and high notes in this wide-ranging role.”
