On May 25 and 29, Kristine Opolais returns to a signature role, Katerina Ismailova, in Shostakovich’s tragic satire, Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk. Opolais has received immense praise for her interpretation of the doomed heroine, with Bachtrack saying of a recent performance, “Her acting was riveting, colored by her sensitivity to the words, and well served by her singing.” Opolais was recently featured on a full recording of the opera, released by Deutsche Grammophon and recorded with Andris Nelsons and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Nelsons also conducts this Opera Leipzig performance, leading an exciting cast directed by Francisco Negrin. Alongside Opolais is Pavel Chernoch as Sergei, Matthias Stier as Zinovij Borisovich Ismailov, and Dmitry Belosselskiy as Boris Timofeevich Ismailov.
